Changes to online reservation acceptance times
Previously, online reservations could only be made up to 10 hours in advance.
This meant that even long-standing WEC Hair customers were unable to make same-day reservations, even when there were available slots. We had been handling such cases over the phone, but there were instances where we were unable to answer calls. We were also able to accommodate last-minute requests from tourists asking if they could come in on the same day, which made us question whether it was fair that tourists could walk in while regular customers could not make reservations.
Therefore, we have decided to adjust the pricing based on the timing of the reservation, allowing long-standing customers to receive preferential treatment and discounts.
Going forward, for same-day reservations:
Cut: 11,000 yen
Cut + Colour: 22,000 yen
However, we will offer a discount to customers who have been coming to WEC Hair for over three years and to those who have been coming for over five years. Customers who have been coming for over five years will be charged the same rate for haircuts as usual. For colouring services, even customers who have been coming for over five years will be charged a slightly higher rate than the standard price.
Customers who have been coming for longer than tourists
Since 2023, the number of tourists visiting the salon has increased, and there are even ‘tourist regular customers’ who visit our salon every time they come to Japan.
However, just because they are tourists doesn’t mean they can do whatever they want. We want our regular customers who live here to feel welcome, so it’s not very pleasant when tourists come without making a reservation.
On the other hand, we can’t charge ‘foreigner rates’ because many of our foreign customers live in Japan and many people consider it ‘discriminatory’.
If tourists are reading reviews
As you can see from the reviews on Google and Reddit, WEC Hair takes its work seriously and treats all customers well.
We are troubled by cases in which tourists make reservations on a whim and then don’t show up or cancel at the last minute without notice.
Of course, we know not all tourists are like that. Some tourists make reservations a month in advance and arrive on time. In Japan, even a 10-minute delay can affect subsequent customers, so we may have to refuse service.
If you want to experience various things in Japan, I believe it is important to understand Japanese rules.
You might ask why we don’t charge a cancellation fee. In Japan, once you make a reservation, you are expected to come, so a fee is unnecessary. Even foreign residents of Japan understand this rule.
However, if the number of tourists who cancel without notice continues to increase, we will have to collect a deposit from all customers and charge a cancellation fee in such cases. Do you want to pay deposit for haircut?
We have introduced a Initial service fee for tourists
By the way, do tourists really need to get their hair cut in Tokyo? If it’s to get a haircut as a souvenir or because they want the skill of a Japanese hairdresser, there’s no need to go to an English-speaking salon. Just go to a Japanese-speaking salon, show the hairdresser a photo and sit quietly while feeling nervous. You can see Japanese hairdresser is trying to the best way for your new hair style without language.
For a busy salon like ours, one-time customers are not welcome.
Therefore, for first-time customers who are tourists,
We have set a Initial fee of 20% on weekdays and 35% at weekends and on public holidays.
The initial service fee is waived for customers who have lived in Japan for more than one month.
If a first-time tourist customer books an available slot on the same day,
The fee will be 13,200 yen on weekdays and 14,850 yen at weekends and on public holidays.
Therefore, we recommend that tourists make reservations for the following day rather than on the same day.
This is a measure to prioritise long-term customers, so please understand.
